What is Brow Henna and how does it work?

Loved by Brow Artists worldwide, Brow Henna is a natural tint made from the Lawsonia plant. It stains both the brow hairs and the skin underneath - giving the illusion of fuller, more defined brows.

At Supercilium, our Brow Henna kit delivers long-lasting results: up to 2 weeks on the skin, 6 weeks on the hairs. It’s the go-to choice for shaping, filling gaps, and creating custom brow looks without makeup or harsh chemicals.

Brow Henna ingredients

Our Henna Brow is loved by Brow Artists not only for the results, but also for what’s inside. At the heart of our formula are three key ingredients that define both the quality and care of the treatment:

1. Henna – the natural tinting powerhouse

Sourced directly from India, henna is the main tinting ingredient in our formula. It stains both the skin and brow hairs, creating fuller-looking brows that last. What makes henna so special?

    • It’s a partly plant-based alternative to fully chemical dyes

    • It gives natural, long-lasting color

    • It offers rich tone, depth, and definition with each application

    • It’s been trusted for centuries - and it’s the reason clients keep coming back.

2. Jojoba Oil – for nourished, protected brow hairs

This golden oil closely mimics the skin’s natural sebum. Jojoba oil keeps the brow hairs soft and hydrated during the treatment and adds a layer of protection that supports healthy hair.

    • Helps prevent dryness and breakage

    • Adds shine and smoothness to the brows

    • Boosts comfort for sensitive clients

3. Aloe Vera – to calm and soothe the skin

Henna treatments aren’t just about color - they’re also about experience. Aloe vera helps soothe the skin underneath and around the brows, reducing any potential irritation.

    • Delivers a calming effect during and after application

    • Perfect for sensitive or reactive skin types

    • Supports a comfortable treatment process from start to finish

Is Henna safe for eyebrows? Common myths and facts

Let’s bust some myths and share the truth, because when it comes to brow treatments, safety and facts matter!

  1. Myth: Henna is 100% natural, so there’s no risk.
Fact: While henna is a plant-based ingredient, the formula is not 100% plant-based. Most Brow Hennas contain added pigments for better performance and color range. That’s why patch testing is essential, even natural products can cause allergic reactions in some clients.

  2. Myth: Henna brows are safe for everyone.
Fact: Not all clients are suitable for Brow Henna. Those with PPD allergies, very sensitive skin, or certain medical conditions (like pregnancy) should avoid it. Always perform a consultation and patch test beforehand.

  3. Myth: All Brow Hennas are the same.
Fact: The quality and safety of Brow Henna are different across brands. At Supercilium, we focus on high-quality ingredients and professional formulas that are trusted by Brow Artists worldwide.

Who should avoid Brow Henna?

While Brow Henna is a favorite treatment for creating fuller, more defined brows, it’s not suitable for everyone. As a professional, it’s really important to recognize who may be at risk before applying any dye!

Clients should avoid Brow Henna if they:

    • Have a known allergy to PPD or hair dye: Even though our formula uses carefully selected ingredients, brow henna still contains PPD (p-phenylenediamine), which can trigger allergic reactions. Always do a patch test 48 hours before treatment.

    • Are pregnant or breastfeeding: Due to hormonal changes and the sensitivity of the immune system, it’s best to skip Brow Henna during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Even natural ingredients can cause unexpected reactions. And the dye doesn’t have to absorb to the skin evenly! Next to this Henna is not tested on pregnant women, and during pregnancy you just don’t want to take the risk.

    • Have damaged or irritated skin around the brows: Broken skin, eczema, or any irritation in the brow area can increase the risk of discomfort or sensitivity. Always wait until the skin is healed before applying any product.

    • Have recently undergone chemical peels or skin treatments: If your client has had a facial, microdermabrasion, or chemical peel in the last 7–10 days, advise them to wait until the skin barrier is fully restored. It could only harm the brows.

Are henna brows safe during pregnancy?

We always get this question -  and the short answer is: no, it’s not recommended.

Even though Brow Henna is partly plant-based, it still includes ingredients (like PPD) that should be avoided during pregnancy. Plus, pregnancy can make the skin more sensitive and react differently than usual because of hormonal changes - even for regular clients.

So our advice? Wait until after pregnancy or breastfeeding. It’s always better to be safe.

Essential Brow Henna aftercare tips for long-lasting results

Want your client’s henna brows to really last? Aftercare is key. Even the best application won’t hold if your client isn’t following the right steps afterward. Share these easy tips with them after every treatment:

    • Avoid water and steam for the first 24 hours. No sweaty workouts, hot showers, saunas, or swimming.

    • No oil-based products around the brows – they’ll break down the stain much faster.

    • Skip exfoliating or scrubbing the brow area – this will fade the skin stain quickly. Tell your client to pat, not rub when drying their face.

    • Moisturize with care – a thin layer of castor oil or our Nourishing Elixir can keep the hairs healthy without affecting the stain.

Brow Henna Benefits: Making Safe and Informed Choices

When applied correctly and with the right safety measures, Brow Henna is one of the most rewarding treatments in your brow service menu. Here’s why both professionals and clients love it:

Natural, long-lasting results: Henna stains both the hair and skin for a fuller brow look that lasts up to 2 weeks on the skin and 6 weeks on the hairs – without daily makeup. And clients absolutely love that.

Customizable for every client: From Blonde to Black, you can mix shades to match each skin tone and hair color perfectly. Learn here more about matching henna colors to skin tones.

No harsh chemicals needed: With plant-based ingredients like henna, jojoba oil, and aloe vera, it’s a gentler alternative to many brow dyes – especially for sensitive clients.

Bold, pigmented, and easy to use: Whether you’re a beginner or a pro, the formula is designed to be user-friendly while delivering strong, defined results your clients will love.

PRO TIP: Always check the expiration date! Henna should be used within 6 months after opening, and not beyond its shelf life. Using expired product can lead to poor results or irritation.
