Pregnancy & Brow Treatments
During pregnancy, your body becomes more sensitive. Hormonal changes can make your skin react differently to products you may have used for years without any issues.
When in doubt, the golden rule is simple:
👉 If it’s not necessary, don’t take the risk.
Can you use Brow Henna during pregnancy?
Short answer: We don’t recommend it.
Brow Henna ↗ - like all hair dyes - contains traces of PPD (Paraphenylenediamine). PPD helps dyes stain the skin and hair effectively, but it is also the ingredient most commonly associated with allergic reactions. Wanna know more about PPD allergies? Read our latest blog post here ↗.
There is limited scientific research on how PPD exposure may affect an unborn baby. While the amount absorbed through the skin is very small, pregnancy is not the time to experiment.
Because the body can become more reactive during pregnancy, even clients who never had a reaction before may suddenly develop sensitivity.
Our advice: For pregnant clients, avoid Brow Henna and choose safer alternatives instead.
Same applies to traditional brow tints, Liquid Dyes and all kinds of dyes with PPD.
Our Safety-First Recommendation
If a client is pregnant, breastfeeding, or undergoing IVF, always follow these steps:
- Be honest and transparent about potential risks
- Recommend consulting a doctor or midwife if unsure
- Patch test is mandatory - no exceptions
- Never pressure a client into treatment
- When in doubt: always skip the treatment
Patch testing during pregnancy (don't skip)
Hormonal changes can cause new allergic reactions, even to products used before.
How to patch test safely:
- Apply a small amount of product behind the ear
- Leave on for the recommended time
- Remove and keep an eye on the area for 48 hours
- Watch for redness, itching, swelling, or irritation
- Patch testing protects both the client and the Brow Artist.
Pregnancy can change Brow Results
Even when a treatment is tolerated, pregnancy hormones can affect:
- Hair texture
- Hair thickness
- Color absorption
This means results may turn out lighter, darker, or different than expected. Always manage expectations and communicate this clearly.
Final thoughts: safety always comes first
We know brows are important - but nothing is more important than health.
❌ Brow Henna during pregnancy → not advised
⚠️ SNAP Gel Tint ↗ → gentler, PPD-free option, but still doing a patch test first! However, the research behind SNAP and pregnancy was not yet conducted and therefore we recommend not to use SNAP or be very cautious.
If skipping brow treatments during pregnancy feels like the safest choice - that is always the right decision.
