What to recommend to clients with allergies (e.g. PPD concerns)

What is PPD and what can it cause?
PPD (para-phenylenediamine) is an ingredient commonly used in hair dyes and some brow tints. It helps create deep, long-lasting pigment! You can find it in our Henna ↗ or Liquid Dye ↗ as well, that's why they are so loved by Brow Pros.
But it’s also one of the most common causes of dye-related allergic reactions.
Clients can experience:
- Redness
- Itching
- Swelling
- Burning sensation
- Blisters in more severe cases
And here’s the tricky part: PPD allergy can develop over time.
Your client might have tinted her brows for years without issues… And suddenly, one day, she reacts. So remember, even if someone says, “I’ve never had a problem before.” that doesn’t guarantee they won’t develop one in the future. At any time in life, you can develop new allergies. So, how to make sure you know if your client is allergic?
Patch Testing
We know. Sometimes it feels like an extra step. But this step is not optional, and it makes sure your client's experience is safe.
Because sensitization to PPD can happen gradually. The body builds up a reaction over time, and that's why you should patch test your clients up to 48 hours prior to their treatment.
So make it your standard:
✔ Always patch test new clients
✔ Re-test if it’s been a long time - longer than 6 months
✔ Re-test after pregnancies
✔ Document reactions properly

Positive Patch Test - what now?
Is your Henna or Liquid Dye patch test positive? Your client is officially allergic to PPD.
Do you cancel the appointment if your client is allergic to PPD? Not anymore! This is where PPD-free brow tint options come in. And more specifically - this is where SNAP ↗ becomes your hero!
Meet SNAP ↗
If you’re searching for:
- alternative to brow dye for sensitive skin
- PPD-free eyebrow tint
- Can I tint brows if allergic to PPD
This is your answer.
SNAP is completely PPD-free. It stains the skin - not the brow hairs.
That means:
- No chemical processing of the hair shaft
- No oxidant needed
- No mixing - saves time
- No waiting for oxidation
- It’s shake. Apply. Remove. Done.
And yes, there is a full certified course explaining how to use it properly! Check out our Certified SNAP Course ↗ - because SNAP works differently from Liquid Dye or Henna.

Why you will love SNAP
Here is something many Brow Artists overlook! Even if your client is not allergic to PPD, SNAP ↗ still has a major advantage: it can be reapplied immediately.
Since it does not process the hair chemically, you don’t have to wait six to eight weeks like you would with traditional dye or Henna. Yes, this means more bookings!
- You can re-dye immediately with SNAP: For example, your client says: “I had my brows done two weeks ago with henna, but I have an event tonight and they look faded.” Redoing henna would be too soon. Processing again with dye might not be ideal and can harm their brows. With SNAP, you can safely refresh the shape!
- Fill the gaps in your schedule: If your client calls and says “I only have 20 minutes today. Can we still do something?” Because SNAP doesn’t require mixing or oxidizing time, it’s a fast and efficient service! That makes it perfect for last-minute appointments and quick brow refreshes.
So SNAP ↗ is not only a PPD-free solution for allergic clients - it’s also a flexible add-on service for any brow artist who wants more freedom between treatments.
How to use SNAP
- Prep & Clean - Start with dry, oil-free brows. Use Pro Cleanser ↗ and Prep Peel Gel ↗ to remove sebum for better adhesion.
- Shake & Apply - Shake well. Remove the plastic tip completely (or cut half of it) so the Gel Tint flows smoothly. Take 4–5 drops (or 1 cm) and apply directly in your desired shape.
- Soften the front - For a natural ombré look, remove the front of the brow after a few seconds. You can use Color Corrector ↗ for that!
- Let it absorb - Leave on for 20 seconds up to 5 minutes, depending on intensity. For a super bold result, let it fully absorb and don't remove.
- Adjust if needed- Too intense? Use the Color Corrector ↗ to soften.
