Listen up brow bosses! We honestly think every day is a chance to celebrate women, but International Women’s Day is THE day where we take a special pride in celebrating the achievements of fearless ladies all over the world. We value all women who have the courage to be who they want to be, and we look forward to celebrating this day with all our girl bosses.
Today we want to pay some extra attention to these beautiful creatures: Rihanna, Beyoncé and Slick Woods. Each of these power women show the world who they really are – truly strong individuals, and we love that!
Rihanna moved to the States from the Caribbean when she was young girl. Her childhood wasn’t necessarily an easy one, but now she’s taken over the world with her portrayal in music, fashion and beauty. Today, she is managing several million-dollar businesses. She thinks of herself as an individual, not a role model. Her most recent venture is Fenty Beauty, a brand that celebrates all women. She wants to show other young women that they are able to achieve their dreams and encourages them to be confident. Rihanna does not really talk about gender equality and other issues; she is a true feminist by just being herself and not apologising for it. She knows her worth and so do we.
“There is something so special about a woman who dominates in a man’s world. It takes a certain grace, strength, intelligence, fearlessness and the nerve to never take no for an answer” – Rihanna
In this modern world, Beyoncé stands for strength, independence and pride. She indicates in her songs that women are not depending on men in life. She is a fearless woman, and we (together with the rest of the world!) respect her very much. Beyoncé has been named in the Women’s Power List several times and this has its reasons. She uses her music to talk about black politics, civil rights, feminism and showcases intersectionality. She introduces a new wave of feminism; introducing it to the mainstream and encouraging cultural change in our social-media driven society.
“We need to reshape our own perception of how we view ourselves. We have to step up as women and take the lead” – Beyoncé
The third power women we’re talking about today is Slick Woods. With a charismatic smile, bleached brows, bald head and some serious ink, she’s as fierce as they come! Slick went from being a homeless teenage girl to rebel trendsetter. She is very distinct and open, and we admire here for that. About her bald head she says that it exposes her to the world without any protective covering. She argues, “I don’t have anything to protect myself. I am happy today or I am sad today and that’s okay.” Slick is becoming a mother soon, which has made her hopeful about the future and about the planet, because it shows that you can create life; whatever you want that life to be.
Here’s to strong women. May we know them, may we be them, and may we raise them.
